Overview

The service, without the fluff.

What it is

Highfield-awarded First Aid at Work training, including full First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work and refresher / requalification courses, delivered at our Bristol HQ or in-house at your workplace by working FREC- and paramedic-level medics.

Who it's for

Employers meeting their HSE workplace first-aid duty, event and venue teams that need trained first-aiders on shift, construction and site managers, hospitality operators, schools and clubs, and individuals building a professional skill set.

When you need it

Scheduled cohorts throughout the year at our Bristol HQ, plus in-house delivery to your team at your site. Refresher courses run to align with the standard three-year requalification cycle.

Why professional matters

Cardboard-certificate first aid courses tick a box; they don't change what happens in the first two minutes of a real workplace collapse. Training delivered by working medics, the same people we deploy on our event medical cover, gives your team practical, calm, evidence-based skills they can actually use.

What happens if you leave it

The cost of the wrong provider, or none at all.

Risk

HSE compliance gaps

Employers have a legal duty to provide adequate, appropriate first-aid provision. Out-of-date or missing training exposes the business to enforcement action and to civil liability if something goes wrong.

Risk

Panic in the first two minutes

Most workplace incidents are decided in the first two minutes. Teams trained on scenarios freeze less, act sooner, and hand over to ambulance crews cleanly, the difference between a scare and a fatality.

Risk

Event & venue liability

Event insurers and licensing bodies increasingly expect trained first-aiders on shift as a baseline, not just a first-aid box on a hook.

Risk

Skills that don't survive the year

Cheap courses over-focus on the exam and under-focus on retention. Skills fade fast without scenario work, and a certificate on a wall isn't a saved life.

Risk

Wrong course for the workplace

One-day EFAW is not the same as three-day FAW. Booking the wrong course leaves you either short of the standard your workplace needs or paying for training you didn't.

Risk

Missed refresher windows

First-aid certification runs on a three-year cycle. Missed refresher windows mean lapsed cover, non-compliance, and a full-length re-sit rather than a shorter requalification.

Our process

A clear system, from first call to sign-off.

  1. Step 01

    Scope the requirement

We help you scope the right course for your workplace and headcount, HSE guidance, sector norms and your own risk assessment.

  2. Step 02

    Book the cohort

Choose a scheduled course at our Bristol HQ or arrange in-house delivery at your site. Joining instructions, pre-course reading and payment terms are issued on confirmation.

  3. Step 03

    Delivery by working medics

Delivered by FREC- and paramedic-level instructors, teaching from live-scene experience, not slides alone. Scenario work is built into every session.

  4. Step 04

    Assessment & certification

You complete the Highfield-awarded assessment. Successful learners are issued the certificate and added to a reminder list before their refresher window.

  5. Step 05

    Refresher & retention

We contact you ahead of the three-year window so nobody drops off compliance, and offer short annual refresher sessions to keep skills sharp.

Benefits

What you actually get out of it.

Highfield-awarded certificate

A recognised, portable qualification your insurers, HSE and clients will accept.

Working-medic instructors

Skills taught by medics who work live scenes, not classroom-only trainers.

Scenario-based retention

Practical drills built into every course so skills survive past the exam.

Flexible delivery

At our Bristol HQ or on-site at your workplace, including out-of-hours slots for shift teams.

Workplace-appropriate content

We tailor scenarios to your workplace, construction, hospitality, office, event, not one-size-fits-all.

Refresher reminders built-in

We track your cohort's expiry dates and prompt you before compliance drops off.

The detail

Methods, variations and how we deploy.

A single page can't replace a walk-around and a written proposal, but this is what the work looks like in practice, so you know what you're comparing.

First Aid at Work (FAW), three-day

The full HSE-recognised First Aid at Work qualification, three days of content covering primary and secondary survey, resuscitation, airway management, bleeding control, shock, burns, fractures, medical conditions (cardiac, stroke, diabetic emergency, anaphylaxis), and workplace-specific scenarios. Delivered through a Highfield awarding-body route and assessed against nationally recognised standards.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), one-day

The one-day EFAW qualification, appropriate for lower-risk workplaces where a full three-day FAW is not required by risk assessment. Covers the essential immediate response skills: primary survey, resuscitation, choking, bleeding, shock, unconscious casualty management. Highfield-awarded and HSE-recognised for the workplace cover it is designed for.

FAW / EFAW refresher & requalification

First-aid certification runs on a three-year cycle. Rather than re-sitting a full course, existing certificate holders can attend a shorter requalification course before their expiry. We track your cohort's expiry dates and prompt you before compliance drops off.

In-house delivery at your workplace

For employer group bookings we deliver on-site at your workplace where you have a suitable training space. This is the most cost-effective option for teams of 6+ and lets us tailor scenarios directly to your environment, construction site, hotel kitchen, event floor or office.

Content taught by working medics

Our first-aid instructors are working operational medics, FREC- and paramedic-level, deployed on our event medical cover contracts. Skills are taught from live-scene experience, and the scenarios your team drills are the ones we've actually attended. That is the difference between memorising a checklist and being able to run one under pressure.

Compliance, records & reminders

We provide certificates promptly after successful completion and maintain a reminder list for cohort refresher windows. For employer clients we can produce a summary of trained personnel and their expiry dates for your HSE / insurance compliance file.
